Definition
Urban mining stands for sustainable and future-proof raw material extraction. Cities and towns are regarded as raw material mines.
Valuable resources of various kinds are tied up there for a certain period of time. Afterwards, however, they are released again and can be made usable. Urban mining deals with the recovery of raw materials through the reprocessing of existing goods.
Precious
Metals
Today, precious metals are contained in millions of products, valuables and jewelry that are no longer used. One ton of cell phones, for example, contains 250 mg of gold.
Urban mining means returning them to the material cycle.
Recycling
is inevitable
Precious metals are needed not only for watches and jewelry, but also for many technical applications. But according to estimates, only a maximum of 100,000 tons can still be mined.
For example, 180,000 tons of gold have already been mined, of which about 90% is in circulation. The situation is similar with the rarer platinum.

Effects
The use of secondary raw materials from urban mining not only conserves natural resources and thus secures the livelihood of existing and future generations. It reduces environmental pollution and helps to avoid hazardous working conditions.

Gold
Since September 2022, acredo rings are made from 100% recycled gold. This applies to all gold alloys such as yellow, rose, red, green, white, gray gold and the beige signature gold. The recycled gold comes from urban mining.

Also since September 2022, acredo platinum rings or rings with platinum details are made from 100% recycled platinum. Like recycled gold, this recycled platinum comes from urban mining.
